Reconsideration is the second step of your Social Security Disability claim.  After you are first denied benefits, you will be sent a form called a Request for Reconsideration.  This is a good time to hire social security disability attorneys, as you will now have to begin the appeals process.

File the Reconsideration Request

You should file your Reconsideration request! Many people make the mistake of starting over on bad advice from friends and neighbors.  In order for your social security files to move forward, you need to appeal, not reapply!

Reconsideration Means Social Security Benefits Were Denied

At Reconsideration, Social Security will look at your file again and almost always make the same decision, i.e. deny you, as they did the first time.  It might seem silly, but you have to go through this stage in order to have your hearing in front of a Social Security Administration Disability Judge--your best shot at getting approved.  Pay attention, there is a deadline on the Request for Reconsideration.  You must send it back within 60 days of the date on your denial letter (not 60 days from when you received it).
