President to ‘Tackle’ Social Security after Health Care

August 14, 2009

The current talk among Congressmen and among citizens of the United States is President Barack Obama’s proposed overhaul of the federal healthcare system. His changes have sparked conversation and controversy. However, another fear that many thousands of Americans have is the eventual depletion of Social Security.

Experts have predicted that all of the money, which is stored for Social Security, will be completely spent by 2037. In addition, the coffers for Medicare are expected to empty by 2017. Because the baby boomers are retiring rapidly, it is believed that unless taxes are increased, all of these funds will be unavailable for future generations.

This is why President Barack Obama announced a few days ago that he plans to tackle the issue of social security- and its related programs- after the healthcare overhaul is resolved. Many Americans still worry, however, that because of the intensity of the debate surrounding healthcare reform, Obama will not have the time or support to tackle the next sensitive issue.
