Is it necessary to hire a Social Security Attorney for help with a SS Disability Application?
Question: My sister asked me to help her with her Social Security disability application. I have an attorney who has done work for me in the past, but he is busy and admits he doesn't do a lot of Social Security work. If I get an attorney to help her, does it have to be a social security attorney?
Response: When selecting an attorney, it is wise to look for an advocate who specializes in whatever area of law the work is in. Does he or she specialize in Social Security disability cases, or do they merely fit them in occasionally between the myriad of other files in their caseload? In most cases, it's best to select an attorney who specializes, not just dabbles.
Some things to consider when looking for a Social Security attorney include accessibility, how knowledgeable they are, whether or not they are willing to answer questions, and the timeliness with which they answer your phone calls. That should provide you with a starting point in finding a good attorney for your sister.
