Survivor

When a person who has worked and paid Social Security taxes dies, certain members of the family may be eligible for survivors benefits. Up to ten years of work is needed to be eligible for survivor benefits, depending on the person's age at the time of death. Survivors include the spouse, a disabled spouse, unmarried children under age eighteen, disabled children and parents of the wage earner age sixty two or older.

  • Children of the deceased wage earner of any age who are disabled and remain disabled are survivors eligible for benefits.
