It is designed to provide income to the elderly, blind and disabled people who have little or no income. The SSI income may be used to meet basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. To be eligible to receive this SSI income an applicant must be a U.S. citizen or an alien who qualifies pursuant to seven different qualification levels.
