Ssi Income

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a Federal income supplement program funded by general tax revenues, not Social Security taxes. It is designed to provide income to the elderly, blind and disabled people who have little or no income. The SSI income may be used to meet basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. To be eligible to receive this SSI income an applicant must be a U.S. citizen or an alien who qualifies pursuant to seven different qualification levels.

  • To receive SSI income benefits based on age, the applicant must be sixty five years old or older.
  • An applicant for SSI income benefits with a visual impairment that is not full "blindness" may still be eligible for SSI benefits on the basis of his visual disability.
