Social Security Files

If you have filed a claim with the Social Security Administration (SSA) for benefits, the agency has created a file regarding your claim. Social security files are called "exhibit" files, and include all information gathered that is pertinent to your approval or denial, including your medical records, limitations statements, notes, doctor reports and any opinions Social Security has developed regarding the evidence in your case. Your exhibit file also holds information regarding your income and earnings. Finally, every form you completed during the application process is in your file, along with information from any previous claims. The Residual Functional Capacity form is included in your file, and is the Social Security Administration's opinion regarding the type of work they believe you can and cannot perform.
