Disability Examiner

Disability examiner is a generic title and reflects the responsibilities and duties of disability adjudication under the Social Security Administration's disability programs but does not necessarily reflect the actual titles of specific positions in individual states. The Social Security disability examiner's job involves working with medical consultants to determine impairment severity, ability to function and disability benefit eligibility - requires considerable expertise and knowledge of complex regulations and policies. Changes in agency rules and in the type of disability claims received by the DDSs have made disability decision-making more subjective and difficult.
