Disability Case Status

The disability case "status" or current disposition of a Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income application may easily be checked by an applicant or claimant by simply contacting the local Social Security office in person or by telephone. It may also be helpful to contact the State agency that may be reviewing the claim such as the Disability Determination Service office or the DDS. A claimant may be able to speak with the disability examiner reviewing his case and find out if it will be expected to be approved or denied.

Fast Facts

  • A call to a disability determination examiner may provide an opportunity to submit additional medical information necessary for approval of the claim.
  • Contacting the agency reviewing the claim may allow a claimant to become aware that a hospital or doctor's office has not provided necessary medical documentation. The claimant may avoid a denial by taking steps to obtain the medical data.
