Birth Certificate

The claimant's original birth certificate is required by the social security administration in order to provide evidence or proof of the claimant's age. A birth record maintained by a government entity will usually be acceptable for the purpose of proving benefit recipient's age. The Social Security Administration needs proof of claimant age in several situations. Determining the rights of dependent children seeking benefits, claimant's age sixty two and over seeking retirement benefits, deceased workers where there is an issue as to benefit computation or insured status and determining the age of a disabled worker for disability insurance benefits.
